Jill Ammon Vanderwood is the mother of four grown children and the grandmother of six. Born and raised in the state of Oregon, she was the third of eleven children. She now makes her home in Utah, with her husband, Bill. Jill enjoys spending time with her family, going to movies, and camping. Her hobbies include quilting, reading mysteries, eating chocolate, and traveling. Growing up, she enjoyed reading books about children going on magical adventures. Her favorite author was Edward Eager.

After telling her grandchildren the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in every imaginable way, she began making up her own stories. The characters in her stories are named after her own grandchildren, and many of the ideas come from the children themselves.

"Through the Rug" is the author’s first children’s book.

Synopsis: Grandma Emma has been attending cooking school. She never realized at the beginning that she was actually learning to make magic formulas. When her ten year old granddaughter, Alyssa comes to visit she notices that Grandma has turned her black and white dog Domino pink and green.

Alyssa realizes that Grandma is not making cookies when she gets out a chemistry set. Grandma tells her she is making a recipe for more days in the week. This time, Grandma doesn't exactly follow the recipe. The formula spills onto the kitchen rug, Grandma, Domino, and Alyssa fall though the rug to a land called Wishville, where all wishes are granted. They attend a wedding reception where they can eat as much as they want, without getting full.

Domino enters a dog contest where he is the most colorful dog. Alyssa and grandma swim in a lake with fish who dance the hoochy goochy dance, and land on an island with pirates, with no way to get back. They visit the Wish Theme Park, where they don't need money to ride, and win at every game. Alyssa and Grandma visit San Francisco and Alyssa dances in a professional ballet. When they leave Wishville, they know they can return any time they want.
